Poster Designs for Meltdown

Over the past several months I've been part of a rock and indie night that offers live music every month and alternative DJ nights. Here is the collection of gig posters that I have designed for each event we have had.
The idea behind the posters was to create an evolving pattern that would keep changing and developing, the pattern has now been applied to other items such as promotional products and animations. Members of Meltdown include Mike Hanson, Mark Hewitt, David Ruston, Courtney Halstead, Stephen Deacon and myself.

A Trail of Hidden Words

This past year I feel that I have become disconnected from my blog, so I thought since the new year has begun I shall share various projects I have been involved with. A project that I am desperately wanting to share on here is A Trail of Hidden Words, a project that was made possible through funding given to me by IdeasTap, a creative website that helps fund and help young people to achieve. I had a idea to bring young writers together in my local town of Scarborough, they would share their personal views about the town in the most honest way possible and then display them for members of the public. IdeasTap awarded me funding for this which was great, finally I could give the town something juicy to feast their eyes upon instead of reading up on the latest crimes and court appeals that constantly seem to make the headlines. I decided to get 5 local writers involved that varied from songwriters to poets, each then supplied me with existing and new content to work from.

I decided to host this project in one of Scarborough's best kept gardens, The Italian Gardens of South Cliff, and have it run for just one evening making the trail exclusive and limited. The trail had 22 lazer cut panels hung from various places and the garden was magically lit up, creating a mystical and tranquil atmosphere for the public to engage with. Overall the night was a huge success, getting people to question and rethink their judgement and opinion of the town. Huge thanks has to be given to all 5 writers that were involved, James Koppert, Jamie McGary, Ben Sullivan, Lee Simpson and Martyn Hughes.

Christmas Cards

This year I decided to have a go at making my own hand cut Christmas cards!
Each card has a unique design, all incorporating the theme of nature. I wanted to show a form of journey that runs throughout each card, combining elegant swirls and organic plant forms.
Big thanks to David Ruston for photographing these! http://www.davidruston.co.uk/

The Metamorphosis [un-conventional]

Here is a series of posters I created for 'The Metamorphosis' brief. I only used Gregor's speech within the second and third chapter for these posters. The idea was to explore his speech through creative typography introducing certain bits of colour to emphasize on his emotions.

The Metamorphosis [conventional]

Here is a conventional book I had created for the brief 'The Metamorphosis'. I wanted to create something different that represented the main character 'Gregor', however not make it as obvious.
I have hand stitched this with just a simple saddle stitch. And created a simple sleeve for the
chapters to slot inside, securing it with a simple belly band.

The Metamorphosis [conventional]

Here are close up shots showing my tip-ins to the book. The idea behind this book was that Gregor was pushing out of a small space on the brown stock and the rest of his family were normal size that were free on the bigger pages.

Manifesto

A project for uni based on our own manifesto. Mine was base on the idea of everyone 'switching off' once a month to appreciate how much much we rely on modern technology! You would receive one of these cards through your door once a month saying 'SWITCH OFF'.
